Throughout decades:
1966-1979
Graphic studio Campbell Creative and Colorgraphic (started in 1957) becomes Campbell Advertising in 1966, operating from its CBD office at 55 Upper Queen Street. Campbell Advertising Limited commences its Asia and USA expansion strategy from 1970. The company outgrows its facilities by the mid 70s and a new office building is constructed at 55 Pollen Street in nearby Ponsonby. Legacy clients include Villa Maria Wine and Radio Hauraki.
1980-1989
Campbell Advertising expands to cover more than 15 international locations. Annual revenue averages circa NZD40 million by the end of the decade. Client portfolio includes the Sheraton Corporation, Thai Airways, Newmans Group, as well as the New Zealand Tourism Board. Campbell Advertising becomes instrumental in branding Auckland as New Zealand’s ‘City of Sails’.
1990-1999
Campbell Advertising divests its strategic marketing and tourism division in a partnership split and exits the ad industry, retaining a handful of staff and entering the advanced technology sector through founder Gene Campbell’s proprietary media and technology initiatives. New subsidiaries are formed under Campbell Advertising as a parent entity.
2000-2009
Founder Gene Campbell passes unexpectedly in 2002 with no formalised succession plan. Campbell Advertising is merged with subsidiary Ponsonby’s Shopping Village in 2005 in an internal restructure.
2010-2019
After a period of consolidation, newly appointed director Greg Campbell undertakes general management and restructuring of the Campbell company and all residual operations and holdings onwards from 2015.
2020+
The original Campbell Advertising office in Ponsonby, Auckland, undergoes extensive remodelling and automation and is officially re-instated by late 2020. The same site houses shared work space for new businesses, start-up incubator workshops as well as the Campbell company offices and archives facilities.
In early 2021, the company is renamed Campbell Aotearoa Limited. A sister company is also established as Campbell Universal Limited.
